This exercise puts negative numbers into a real-life setting — temperatures going up and down. A rise of 5 degrees means add 5; a fall of 5 means subtract 5. The result can easily land below zero.
What does this generator do?
Picks a starting temperature between −8 and 8 °C and a change of 3 to 12 degrees — either a rise or a fall — and asks for the new temperature.
How to use it
Picture a thermometer or a number line. "Rose by 5" → move up 5 places. "Fell by 5" → move down 5 places. Watch for the sign of the answer.
