Probability — introduction (Year 7)
A first taste of probability for Year 7: the probability of a simple event written as a fraction, experimental vs theoretical probability, compound events for a coin and a die, the sample space of two coins, and estimating a population from a random sample.
Available exercises
Compound event — coin and die
A coin is flipped and a die is rolled. Choose the probability that both events match.
Experimental vs theoretical probability
A die is rolled many times. Write both the experimental probability (from the data) and the theoretical probability (from the model) as fractions.
Probability of a simple event
A bag of coloured marbles. Read off the probability that a randomly drawn marble has the asked colour, as a fraction.
Random sample — estimating the population
From a small random sample, estimate how many items in the whole population have the given trait.
Sample space — list all outcomes
Two coins are tossed. Choose the set that lists every possible outcome of the experiment.
