On this page you will find an online generator for exercises focused on determining the number of trailing zeros in powers. You will see a base (usually ending with zeros) raised to the second or third power, and your task will be to determine how many zeros the result will have. This exercise excellently practices working with large numbers and powers of ten for ninth-grade students.

How the exercise generator works

To create a new exercise, simply:

  • press the "New exercise" button,
  • look at the given base and its exponent,
  • count the number of zeros at the end of the base and multiply them by the exponent,
  • write the resulting number of zeros in the empty field and press "Check".

After solving an exercise, you can immediately generate the next one and continue practicing.

What is the Number of Trailing Zeros Generator?

The generator creates exercises with powers where the base ends in a certain number of zeros and the exponent is usually 2 or 3. The student’s task is to determine, without calculating the exact result, how many trailing zeros the resulting number will have. Example: 400² = 160,000, the answer is 4.

Usage

An expression like 500³ will be displayed on the screen. Your task is to calculate how many zeros will be at the end of the resulting number. Enter this value into the designated field and click the "Check" button.
