Compute the area of the square.
a = 0 cm
S = cm²

Area tells you how much space the figure takes up inside – for example how many square centimeters fit into it. For a square you multiply the side by itself (a · a). For a rectangle you multiply the longer side by the shorter one (a · b). The result is always in square units – cm², m², or mm².

What does the generator do?

The generator picks a square or rectangle at random, with whole-number sides between 2 and 15 and a unit (cm, m, or mm). Because the numbers are small, you can work out the area using basic multiplication.

How to use it

If it is a square, multiply the side by itself. If it is a rectangle, multiply the longer side by the shorter one. Type the number into the box next to “A =” and remember the unit is squared (e.g. cm²).
