📚 Want to learn more?
On this page you will find an online generator of addition and subtraction exercises that allows you to choose different difficulty levels. Students can practice counting up to 10, 20, or 100 and after solving a problem, they can generate a new exercise with one click. These exercises are suitable for independent practice as well as for mathematics instruction.
How the exercise generator works
To create a new exercise, simply:
- choose whether it is addition or subtraction,
- click the "New Exercise" button,
- calculate the result and enter it in the third field,
- verify the correctness of your solution with the "Check" button.
After solving an exercise, you can immediately generate the next one and continue practicing.
Addition and subtraction up to 10
This level is designed mainly for preschoolers and first-grade students. The generator creates simple exercises where the sum of two numbers is at most 10. For subtraction, the first number is always greater than the second so the result is not negative.
Addition and subtraction up to 20
At this level, students practice counting up to 20. Depending on the selected difficulty, exercises can proceed without crossing 10, or include crossing over tens. The generator automatically sets the numbers to match the selected difficulty.
Addition and subtraction up to 100
This level is suitable for more advanced students. For addition, the sum is at most 100. For subtraction, the minuend is up to 100 and the subtrahend is up to 10. It can also be set with or without crossing tens.
Difficulty levels
The exercises have five difficulty levels:
- Up to 10: The sum of two numbers is always at most ten. For subtraction, the first number (minuend) is at most 10 and the second (subtrahend) is always less than the minuend.
- Up to 20 without crossing 10: For addition, the sum is max. 20. The first number is between 10 and 20, the second is max. 10. For subtraction, the minuend is max. 20 and the subtrahend is set so that the result is not less than 10.
- Up to 20: Addition - The sum is at most 20, one number is always up to 10.
- Up to 100 without crossing tens: One number is always at most ten, the other is set so that the sum of the two numbers does not cross a multiple of ten.
- Up to 100: The sum is at most 100, one number is always at most 10. For subtraction, the minuend is max. 100 and the subtrahend is max. 10.
