What does this generator do?

The generator builds an expression with 2–3 terms in "a" and 1–2 constants, in random order. Combine the like terms.

How to solve it

Terms with the same variable (e.g. "3a" and "−a") combine — the resulting coefficient on "a" is the sum of the coefficients. Plain constants combine separately. Write the result as "coefficient·a + constant".
