You see a sum with one number missing. Your job is to work out which number belongs there.
How to practise
The opposite sum helps you. Is a number missing in an addition? Take away: 423 + ? = 700 → 700 − 423 = 277. Is the second number missing in a subtraction? Take away: 900 − ? = 600 → 900 − 600 = 300. Is the first number missing in a subtraction? Add: ? − 200 = 300 → 300 + 200 = 500. At the end, check: put your number in and work out the whole sum.
