A jacket cost £200. The shop offers 20% off, then VAT of 10% is added at the till. What is the final price in £?

What does the generator do?

The generator alternates three patterns — discount then tax, percentage increase, percentage decrease — using friendly percents (10, 20, 25, 40, 50) and bases divisible by 100 so the answer is always a whole number.

How to solve

For a percentage increase use the factor (100 + p)/100; for a decrease use (100 − p)/100. For two consecutive changes multiply the factors — do not just add the percents. Always compute one step at a time and keep the units clear.
